~ The Ian Walsh 19th Annual Menehune Mayhem Contest was held this weekend at Ho'okipa Beach Park.
It was held in a weekend of big, bumpy surf and the Kids were paddling out in heroic fashion. Many reminding me of baby Sea Turtles when they first meet the Ocean. They were being bounced all around in the unruly conditions with little chance to dig their little arms in and paddle. In true Hawaiian bravery, they all paddled with the intention of getting a good wave and taking the Crown in their division. They were ready for anything and I was proud of them all. They all showed incredible talent, stoke and aloha.
It was a weekend of great fun and it was really nice to run in to so many old friends. It was truly a wonderful event and I cannot remember being so happy within a life of great happiness. The kids were just so much fun to watch. It was their event and everyone did their part to show these Keiki the true spirit of Aloha and Ohana.
Mahalo to Ian and the Walsh Brothers, along with everyone else that participated in making this a great time for everyone.
Here are some shots of the young Kane and Wahine. mm
